January in Review (Sorta)

Oh wow look at that…I haven’t posted for like 3 weeks. I’m awesome. (Or lazy.)

January was pretty boring. There was a LOT of snow. And a lot of unnecessary driving in said snow since my office refused to be closed. Thanks, guys.

----

The new car hunt is on! One of my aunts is like a wolverine when it comes to negotiations, so I’ve recruited her into helping me. She’s great at research and all that fun stuff. I’m aiming for a Honda Civic, and I’ll get it before the end of March so I don’t have to pay for inspection and what not.

----

My yoga class got cancelled. Major sads. It might start up again later this year, but there are no guarantees. I was going to try a class at a studio last night but I couldn’t even touch my toes, my legs hurt so badly. I got a trainer at my gym and he doesn’t like to take it easy on me. After sitting for a few hours at my desk, I’d get up and it felt like someone was stabbing the back of my knees. People keep telling me that it’ll be worth it, but I don’t know how much I believe them. We’ll see.

----

I bought my plane ticket to go to Florida to see my mom over Mother's Day.  I want to make her brunch, but she's gone vegan which makes it decidedly more difficult.  I'll have to do some research.

----

There was an opening in our warehouse. My boss has decided to hire his creepy little look-alike. I may need to find a new job; I don’t think I can take both of them. Why he didn’t hire the attractive guy in the suit I will never understand.

I’ll try to stop being lazy and post more. I’m trying something new this week (something to cross off of my life list), so I’m excited to see how that goes. I’ll share next week!

:Updated: Oh Hey There!

Sorry I’ve been antisocial media (see what I did there?) I’ve hardly even been on Facebook, but I have updated the Twitter a little bit. I have about 6 half-posts floating around, but it’s been really busy and hectic. I’ve done Christmas shopping and crafting and wrapping and baking (oh my). I don’t know what to get people these days. I don’t want to buy them some stupid present that they’ll never use, so I tend to make them. I made my 2 aunts that I’m close with necklaces, and I’ll be giving another aunt 2 Katie-sitting sessions (so she and my uncle can have some time out if they want). And I always give people baked goods.

Work’s gotten busy. I feel like they’re actually trying to use my creative skills now. It only took 2 years. On the negative side, I’ve had money taken from my wallet (which was in my purse, in my desk drawer in my office) twice in the last month. The second time was on Wednesday. This has been going on for 6 months and they’re finally going to do something about it. Six other people have had money taken; a few were missing over $100. Then last night I found a $20 bill on the floor at job #2. People said I should keep it because I’ve had money taken (karma?), but part of me feels like I should donate it or something. I’ve donated to Hopeline and the MS Society this year and donated stuff for care packages for the USO. But I always feel like I could/should be doing more, so I’m torn.

Today we’re decorating the lunchroom for our holiday party on Tuesday. And tomorrow I’m taking everyone’s donations down to the USO. I hope I don’t see a soldier. I’ll cry. Eventually I’d like to volunteer there and I’m sure I’ll cry then.

I hope everyone has a healthy, happy, and safe holiday!  My mom and step dad will be here in less than a week!  I still have baking to do! Crap!

PS: I did not win tickets to The Starting Line show in Philly tonight. Sads.

UPDATED:  I took the aforementioned money and participated in the movement Jenny the Bloggess started.  I couldn't stand the thought of someone's child not having a Christmas.

I'm Scarred

What is it about a restroom door being propped completely open that says “Hey! Why don’t you come pee now!”??

I was working on Sunday night and ended up having to clean and close the dining room-which includes the restrooms. Which is my least favorite job to begin with. My worst fear is walking in on a guy using the urinal, so I always knock 123145 times before I go in, then I move the trash can and prop the door completely open. I had done this, and went into the ladies’ room to clean something and when I went to go back into the men’s room, there was a guy at the urinal.

I ran away. Why would you whip it out in a public bathroom with the door propped all the way open?!?!

Then a few minutes later I was changing the trash can that I had used to prop the door with. The door was open. An older gentleman came walking down to the restroom, so I told him I’d be done in a moment. His response, “That’s ok, I don’t mind if you watch”. Excuse me? “It’s ok, I’ll just use the cube. Don’t tell your father hahaha.” No, no and three times NO. I don’t want to hear old man peeing, let alone see old man pener. Unacceptable. I mouthed “What the f*ck?!?” to my coworker (who was looking down the hall with wide eyes) and ran away.

Perhaps all the weirdoes came out on Halloween? I’ve reached my limit of men attempting to pee in my presence. Hopefully I’ll be closing the bakery this evening.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween (I’m hoping it was better than mine at the very least)!

Deal!

I took the deal-I've decided to keep Match.  I have been emailing this guy who might be too much crazy for me.  It was fine for the first couple of messages.  He won't tell me his name.  I've asked him twice.  TWICE.  I can undterstand missing it once in an email.  And the last couple have seem rushed to me and really short (like 2 lines).  It's weird.  He did tell me he had some recent head trauma.  I may need to leave this one alone.

I applied for a job.  In the city.  It's working for a blog that talks about fun stuff to do in Philly.  Kind of awesome?  Yes.  I love the neighborhood the office is in.  So we'll see how that goes.  My mind is already racing with the possiblities and they haven't even emailed me back yet.

Why is there so much new tv on tonight?  I'm hoping I get home in time to watch one of the 10 o'clock shows.  I'm really into Royal Pains, but Jersey Shore starts tonight!  Gotta love TV that's so bad it's good.  I'm going to have to catch Project Runway on demand or something, though.  Because they moved it to 9.  They moved Big Bang Theory to Thursdays in the fall.  I might have to quit job #2 so I can watch it.  And Glee.

Weekend Extravaganza

I had a really good weekend last weekend.  Which naturally means I'm exhausted on Monday.  But it's ok, because it was worth it.  Friday I had dinner with some of the girls at the Olive Garden, which is always yummy.  Carbs and seafood are a fantastic combination and I won't have anyone tell me otherwise.  After dinner I headed to Target which is like my Mecca.  Why can't I spend less than $50 there?  I tend to compulsively buy things.  Then it was out to the local sports bar to watch the Flyers go on to victory!  Which is always exciting.  Everyone high-fives and hugs, even if you don't know the people.  There was this woman who wouldn't stop screaming.  Like woo-hoo screaming, but it was at random times.  She was tanked.  It was hilarious.

Then on Saturday I got to be a fairy god mother.  My cousin turned 5, so my aunt threw her a fairy-princess tea party.  Yes there are pictures of me with wings, no I do not have a copy of them yet.   All the girls got transformed into fairy princesses when they got there, and they all looked super cute in their little wings and tiaras.  After the kids' party, there was a family get together.  Which really just means I spend 8 1/2 hours getting beat up by 5 year olds.  Huzzah.  But she's my little cheeseball and I like to make her happy and her birthdays special.

Sunday I recouperated a little from being a human jungle gym.  And then I had to go to job #2.  Where the air condition has been broken for the last week and a half.  Which is awesome in 90+ degree weather.  And there were more males than usual working, so I got sexually harassed a lot more than on any given day.  I was really only creeped out by one of the three guys that was there, I'm pretty good friends with the other two, so usually I can just make some snarky comment and then walk away.  But on the bright side, the customer I have a ginormous crush on came in.  He's just so good-looking :::sigh:::.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  :)

A List of Randomness for You to Enjoy.

I have a ton of random stories floating around in my head right now and they're all jumbled and confusing so please don't blame me if this post comes out all jumbled and confusing.  I basically have a few short stories which is why they invented twitter, but here they are in list-ish form.

1-It's World MS Day...learn more here and join the global movement.

2-Effing ShoeDazzle.I ordered the "Nancy" shoes, in which  a portion of the proceeds go toward an MS Society (see above).  And they sent me two left shoes.  TWO. LEFT. SHOES.  Is this God punishing me for too much shopping?  probably...

3-@toywithme is following me on Twitter.  Which I find to be odd.  Since I don't write about sex like, ever.  Because I don't do that sort of thing.  (Or Big Brother reads this.  Hi.)  I sent her sparkle vagina hugs, anyway.  She probably found me through Nicole at More Is Better because I read and comment and twitter stalk her.

4- I saw my ex-boyfriend at the bar Saturday.  I haven't seen or spoken to him in over a year.  Felt awkward.  Didn't acknowledge him.  I left. At midnight. But somehow didn't get home til 3.  Funny how that works out.

5a-  Took off Monday to go to the Philadelphia Zoo.  It's the oldest zoo in the country.  Recognize.

5b- There was a baby orangutan.  I wanted to steal it.  But it was protected behind glass.  I'll post a picture when I'm not feeling so lazy.

6- Glee was amazing this week.  I love Puck even more now.  And Finn dressed in a red shower curtain was amazing.  Also, I want to get a puppy and name her Jackie Daniels.  Brilliant.

7-  Watch Parenthood on NBC.  SO GOOD.  There were 13 episodes this season and I loved every one of them.

8- My computer is still not fixed.  Fail.  I think it may need to go to the doctor.

9-  Post about girly doctors on Friday.  Please take this time to mentally prepare yourselves.

10- I feel like I need to update my resume and start shopping around for a new job.  Boss man is still as annoying as ever.  I like my job, but I don't love it.  Might be time for a change.

I'm going to stop at 10 because it's a nice round number and I have a touch of OCD when it comes to numbers.  Because I'm weird like that.  I don't like lists with off numbers.  Odd numbers are okay, but only if it's a multiple of 5...I have issues.

Hello. My Name is Becky and I'm a Procrastinator

First of all, please get out of google reader and notice and admire my new layout.  I'll make a new header, but for now it's the same pic as my Twitter background.  I'm actually kind of proud of that photo.  I took it on vacay and photoshopped the crap out of it.

Anyway.

I am a procrastinator.  This is something I freely admit.  I procrastinate because it hasn't gotten me into any trouble--yet.  I did it in college, and still got good grades.  (I also never really studied because it was boring and there was always something better on tv.  That's what the 10 minutes before class was for, anyway).

Procrastination case in point:  I just finished unpacking my suitcase from vacation.  RELAX, it was just the clean clothes I didn't use while I was down there.  That's why I figured it was ok...I mean they can sit in my drawer, or they can sit in my bright purple suitcase.  So they sat.  For three weeks.

I've also noticed that I haven't made any headway on my Life List (which I'm still debating on posting) and my  goals for 2010.

Which leads me to my next point (or something...I've already given up my first train of thought...).  I am not a overly neat person.  I AM NOT DIRTY!  I don't leave food all over the place or half drunk glasses of soda or tea (any more) laying around.  But I'm not neat.  All of my things don't have homes.  I like to think that this will change when I have my own apartment and I can spread out, but I'm not too sure that it will.  I'm just lazy, I guess.  It's easier to throw my coat on the floor than to hang it up.  I know you're saying it's not, and I get your logic, but in my head, it is.

I like to take the easy way out sometimes.  I think that mindset has translated and crossed over into other areas of my life.  I've never actively pursued a job.  In high school I worked where my friends worked and they vouched for me and I got hired.  I did a few summer temp stints at job #1 before I worked there full-time.  My aunt works there also, so she just called me whenever there was something open.  I didn't even go after the internship I had during college.  I put my resume on monster.com and hoped for the best.  Somehow it's all worked out.  But I think it might be time to figure out exactly what it is that I want to do and to go after it.

I don't know if this post is babbley or backwards or if it makes sense.  I'm not even sure how I got from point A to point B on this one.  I guess it really is time for some self-exploration (get your minds out of the gutter).  Sorry for the serious turn...please go back to the balls post.

I Am a Victim of Peer Pressure

My favorite Canadian blogger, Cher at The Only Girl, has started an international workspace tour.  I have two jobs, but today I'm going to focus on job #1 because that's where I spend most of my time.  A lot of job #1 focuses on my taking photos and writing descriptions of products and getting them up on our website.  I also do some design stuff, along with the occasional press release.
It looks kind of plain from this view, but I do have photos on the wall in stuff.  I have 2 rooms, one's my office and the other is for photographing product and IT has some stuff stored back there.  PS I work for a cooperating association, we work with the NPS.  That's why there's a paper ranger hat on my desk, and Abe Lincoln on my bulletin board (he's dead, you know).

I took these in the AM so that my coworkers wouldn't think I was nuts...as you can see I've got my oatmeal, juice and my tea.  I reallllly have to pee by 8:30 or 9...I've also got my iPod, which has become even more important than it was before, what with NABM around.  I got a new plant last week...my friend E named it Sheldon (after The Big Bang Theory)

My drawers.  I have 2 drawers for personal stuff like makeup, gum, and snacks.  And two for less important things, like office supplies and files.  Crystal Light is yummy...I highly recommend the pomegranate lemonade.

Under my desk I have fuzzy slippers for when my feet get cold.  The office is a little bipolar.  One minute you're sweating to death, the next you've got a touch of frostbite. I don't actually wear them around the office...that would be unprofessional.  I've also got bike pedals under there because I get antsy and have to move around every once in a while.  And if I use them I can eat candy or donuts or whatever's on the freebie food table in the lunchroom.  At least that's what I tell myself.

I have some cleaning stuff, like disinfecting wipes, and the nifty air duster keyboard thingy.  I disinfect every Friday.  That's how I managed to stay relatively healthy when other people are coughing up a lung.

Here's my back room. I've got a shelf full of product, a lot of which is from Jamestown Glasshouse and amazing.  I also have a creepy mannequin.  He's supposed to be used for shirts and stuff, but we use him more for putting him in other peoples' office chairs to scare the bejesus out of them.  He's still dressed for Mardi Gras.

So that's where I work.  It's a pretty nice office except for the stark white walls that burn into my retina under the harsh florescent lighting, but whatevs.

Also, I've joined twitter (peer pressure!).  I'm here.  It's mostly to follow other people's awesome, but I do have plenty of one-liners that only I think are funny.

Update or something

This is going to be scattered.  No intro, just gonna dive right in.

1. Goals 2010: nothing new really.
a.  I've managed not to buy too many new clothes since cleaning everything out.  I've also managed not to remember to put them out on morning when Purple Heart is supposed to be here.  Maybe I'll just take them to Goodwill.
b.  I have been keeping up with the gym and consequently eating more and also things that are bad for me.  That's just how my brain works.  "I went to the gym...mmm cake!"  I have put on some muscle.  My lower body is looking pretty awesome.  Thank you crossramp!
c. I'm still blogging.

2.  I'm so sick of seeing the trailer for the new Miley Cyrus movie.  If I ever met her, I'm pretty sure I'd punch her in the face.  That's not a threat...swearsies.

3.  The universe decided to make me be super busy workwise at both jobs because I'm off next week.  Awesome.  I'm training someone at job#2 and I'm pretty much the worse trainer ever because I don't really know the new way to do.  They changed protocol and whatnot in the two years since I was there.  Annnd I have like 4 boxes of product to get through at job#1 and like 3 meetings this week.

4.  I haven't been sleeping well.  Going to try to get some shuteye after I'm done posting.  Tylenol PM has been my biffle this week.  NABM (new annoying boss man) asked me if I was "in a mood" the fifth time he came in to bother me today.  I might have to shut my door to get through the rest of the week.

5.  I've been watching Top Model and Tyra has worn a jumpsuit (one piece outfit that's like a dress except the bottom has pant legs instead of a skirt) every episode.  I know you're skinny again, sweetie, but no.

My Moment of Genius (Probably for the Year)

I've coined a new phrase.  It's going to be epic and take over the "As they say..." category.  One day it will be in the "You know that old saying..." category.  But I just made it up today, so it's still a baby phrase.  Not an old man phrase.  I'm really not making sense, even to myself.  That can't be good.

Okay, here's the set up.  I'm sitting in my office working(ish) and newannoyingbossman comes in to tell me that Pres (the president of our company) just spoke to him and we're going to work on getting the structural foundation of the website (which I work on for job #1) working 100% before I learn flash (Adobe Flash, which I don't know. Yet.)  "We're going to hold off on all the bells and whistles" says NABM.  Then I say (this is my moment of genius...can you feel the tension?)

Wait for it...

"It doesn't make sense to build the bicycle without the wheels".

Bells and whistles...bicycle...get it?

Feel free to use this phrase whenever appropriate.  You're welcome

Passive Aggressive Notes Are *Always* the Answer

As I've mentioned here, my coworkers are less than thoughtful when it comes to the common areas (the lunchroom, the bathrooms).  So I left this little love note on the ice bin today.

I taped it on there on Monday, and it's still there.  And the bin hasn't been left empty as far as I can tell.
Also, new boss is a little annoying and driving up a wall.  He's in my door/office/face a lot.  Hopefully things will calm down once he gets back in the flow of things.  I need my space.  This is going to take some getting used to.

Dear Prudence, won't you come out and play?

The title of this post has nothing to do with the actual post.  I've just had that song stuck in my head for approximately foureffingdays.  Thank you afternoon Beatle break.

Anywhatsit...it's going to be one of those weeks.  Last week was kind of one of those weeks ( I had to give one of the kids at job #2 a talking too...tired of working with high schoolers).  But I think that this week is going to take the cake.  It's only Monday, and I'm pretty exhausted. ...I did work out pretty hard today though.  I'm trying to challenge myself a little more.  (Don't worry--I won't end up looking like those creepy body builder chicks who look like men in bikini tops.  I just threw up in my mouth a little blech).

I found out at job #1 Friday that SURPRISE! I have a new boss today.  Thanks for the warning, guys.   It's someone that worked there before when I was there temping in the summer, so I know him.  Here's the thing though--he's really annoying.  When the official e-mail went out about him coming back there was a collective sigh from everyone that had worked with him before.

On top of helping him get up to speed, we've got visitors this week, including the regional managers.  The RM's won't be in the building much, they'll have most of their meetings at the hotel.  Fine by me, they drive us nuts sometimes.

In happier news...Aunt Georgette is coming to visit!  I haven't seen her since a funeral, so I'm excited it's a happy occasion this time.  She'll be here tomorrow.  Her visit promptly snowballed into having all my aunts and my dad here on Saturday, which means....family food fest.  WIN.

I'm Too Tired to Think of a Witty Title...

So my office is now blocking half the internet because of viruses...they say.  I can't get onto Facebook, Blogger, Wordpress or anything else that could potentially make me happy for five minutes when I need a break from staring at spreadsheets and reports.  I do, however, have Google Reader.  Which is great, except I can't see any pictures, just text.
I can read blogs, but I just see a big empty box.  Which makes me sad.  I don't know if the picture is integral to the post or if it's just there to compliment and accent it.  At least they won't block Google..I hope.  They blocked Google video search.  Seriously, guys?  If they block Google reader I will cry.  I will sit here at my dest and cry.  I can still post via e-mail, so they haven't foiled me yet!  Take that IT department!  (I hope none of them find this...that'd be weird.  Most of our IT department is over 50...not really my target audience).
In good work news: I get to learn Adobe Flash!  I'm very excited because I'll get to do more with our website, and I like the more "creative" side of my job.  I'm really very tired of looking at spreadsheets.
Sidenote:  When you want to try someone's drink and they say "Oh, I'm sick!", DO NOT drink it anyway.  That is how you get sick.  You are not invincible. And they generally frown upon runny noses and coughing in a food service establishment (job #2).

I Feel Accomplished

In case you haven't heard, it snowed here.  A LOT.  So I had two days of being stuck in the house.  I worked on some unfinished projects, so I feel a little productive. I've actually been working on one of the blankets i started forever ago, so maybe I'll actually have that finished by the end of the year.

Last week was good work-wise.  The office was only open Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, although I did have to work job #2 all three days.  Thankfully I didn't have to drive through the blizzard to get there.  I don't think my little 4-cylinder Chevy Prizm would have made it, no offense to her.  The sun was out yesterday and the glare made people drive like A-Holes.  I went to dinner and got myself a drink....or three.

Today I finally got to the gym.   The snow has really been messing up my schedule.  The gym's been closed on my days, and I can't go on other days because of job number two. I always feel better after going. I think I might have overdone it a little today though.  I was trying to make up for missed days, and now I'm exhausted.

I also booked my flight to Florida.  My brother and I are going down after Easter to see our mom and step-dad.  I'm hoping to get to the Harry Potter theme park while down there, even though it's a 3 hour drive from Mom's house.  That would be a bonus.  I'm most excited to go lay on the beach.  I'll be counting down the days until April 6th (and working hard at the gym).

I also went to Target today.  How do I always spend more than $50 there?  I'll go in for one or two things and BAM....see ya later money left after paying bills.  I did pick up both Kathy Griffin's and Chelsea Handler's books, though.  I've heard that Chelsea's is really funny, and I lovelovelove Kathy Griffin. So we'll see how that goes.

Is Your Nose Running?...Then You Better Go Catch It.

From October right on through to April or so I am on the precipice of being sick.  I feel perpetually crappy, but somehow it never blossoms into a full blown illness.  I intermittently take a multi-vitamin, zinc, and echinacea.  But the trick remembering to do so.  I do, however, drink juice pretty much every day.  I think the vitamin C is what does it.
There's a girl at job #2, E, who has had more illnesses this winter than I have had in the last 4 years.  First she got the swine flu (which is partially because she kept joking about getting it.  I firmly believe she jinxed herself), then she had bronchitis and/or strep, then pink eye, and now she's got tummy issues.  The tummy issues are a chronic thing--gastrobigmedicalword.  Anywho, being that I work with her 2 days a week, I'm thankful that I haven't gotten any of her diseases.  She's got a 6 year old, so she pretty much gets what he gets.  Huzzah.  This is another reason I don't have kids, yet.  Aside from not having a significant other...details...
I feel the crappiness coming on again.  My nose is stuffy/sneezy/sniffly...I should take some dayquil or something, but I don't like to take medicine for every little thing.  So I'll just drink my grape juice and hug my box of Puffs Plus (with lotion) because they rock and hope that it'll go away.  I'm also hoping that the office will be closed tomorrow because of snow, then I can save my sick days for when I get the plague or pneumonia, or I need a mental health day.  I think that mental health days are 10 times more important than physical health days.

A Note to Some of My Coworkers

Dear People in my Office:
What the eff?  Is it really necessary to leave 2 sheets of toilet paper on the roll and not change it.  I can see how it could be taxing as the new rolls are about a foot away.  Are you the same person who leaves the last sheet of paper towel on the roll?  I always like to use that glue-covered last piece while drying my dishes, warming up my lunch, etc.
Please take an additional 3 minutes to refill the ice cube trays.  I'm aware that you're busy--we all are.  But until we get a new fridge with ice maker, REFILL WHAT YOU FINISH!  That goes double for the coffee.  Yes, I'm talking to you six-cups-of-coffee-drinker.  You know who you are.  You're the people who will take from the new pot so you don't empty the old one.  Just make more coffee.  While we're on the subject--if you spill coffee grounds, sugar, and/or creamer, clean that ish up.  Do you leave messes like this at home?  Does your significant other clean up after you as though you're a child?  I think it might be time to grow up.
Kthx =)
