Tidbits

  • I decided to not really care about diet so much for the last couple of weeks.  This has resulted in a 5 pound weight gain.  My goal is to drop that, plus a little more as a cushion, before the holiday foodfests begin.  Fingers crossed. I'm planning on cardio 3 days a week, yoga twice, and weight training once or twice.  I also found out my old yoga teacher (from hot yoga last year) is teaching pole dancing at my gym.  I may have to try it.
  • Kellifish’s baby shower is this weekend. I’m very excited that I got the blanket done.  I’m making cupcakes for the shower, so I just have to get those done and I’ll be good.  Here’s a little preview.  It’s knit, purl, and seed stitches. It’s supposed to have a hood on the corner, but I don’t think I’m a fan.

  • I need to start thinking about what I’m getting/making people for Christmas.  I know for sure what I’m getting most people.
  • I wanted to start building at Habitat asap.  The soonest available date is October 27.  Which is a Thursday, when I work 2 jobs.  So I’ll probably end up going to the Women Build site (which is not as close to me) the first Saturday in November.  I would have thought they’d have more Saturdays available.  Shows what I know.
  • I really need to either find a different job #2 or start doing something on the side.  It’s making me stabby and I don’t like it.
  • I dislike people who come into job #2 wearing Phillies jerseys/tshirts/hats/etc while there's a NLDS GAME GOING ON RIGHT NOW. Are there assigned seats on the bandwagon? Meanwhile, I'm trying to check scores on my phone, which we're not allowed to use while we're clocked in because we can fired for it. Awesome.  Game 4 tonight! Also, who picks the times for these games? 6:07? What is that?

Just Another Manic Monday

Okay, not really. But one of the radio stations here is sponsoring a Bangles concert, so the song got in my head.

I had the fattest week I've had in a reeeally long time last week. i figured since I didn't have to fit into my bridesmaid dress any more, I deserved it a little. I still worked out, but only about half as much as usual (plus I didn't work out today-I'm on doggy duty and I didn't want to put Otis back in his crate after he had been there all day (yes I'm using the dog as an excuse)). And oh, my friends, did I eat. Enchiladas, fried dough, doughnuts, mac and cheese with bacon baked right in, ice cream for dinner, soup in bread bowls.  So tasty.

It's going to be a little difficult to get back in a healthier state of mind and body.  Especially since eating all that cheese and sugar just makes me feel like taking a nap.  I'll ease myself in this week.  Maybe.  My birthday is Friday, so I've got at least one happy hour and one dinner on the schedule.

And a massage.  I can't wait.  My back has been so sore lately.  Too much sitting, slouching, stressing, etc.  I have a knot the size of a walnut in my shoulder, so I am very excited.  Yay for Living Social and $40 massages!

On a completely unrelated note-I did the volunteer orientation for Habitat for Humanity. I'm so excited to go to a build.  There's one maybe 10 minutes from my house.  I've wanted to do it since high school, and it just kind of hit me one day....why haven't I?  So I am.  I like being able to physically help someone out.  Plus I learned a lot about the organization that I didn't know. Job #1 is for a not-for-profit, but I don't get to see a direct correlation between what I do there and how it effects who we're serving.  This way I will be.  Plus, who doesn't like getting their hands dirty every once in a while?

I Can't Think of a Title...

Last week was a rollercoaster.  And not of love. (Say what?)  (Now I’m going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day).
I had official wedding duties, helped a friend (ok, ex-manfriend) going through a really hard time (he’s feeling a lot better and is going to work on the stuff that he needs to work on), finally got to the city (Varga! Yay!), and cleared most of my to-do list.  So I checked out during my free time.  I hardly read (Knit Two-Friday Night Knitting Club novel (I wish I was in a knitting club)), but I watched a lot of On Demand.  Which doesn’t really count as productive, but I needed it.
This week is going to be more of the same: taking the bad with the good.  My mom had an MRI and was diagnosed with stenosis.  She’s going to meet with her doctors and figure out what her options are.  And this weekend I’m headed to the shore with the rest of the bridal party to relax.  This is Kellifish’s bachelorette weekend. Which will be really low-key considering she’s pregnant and three of the other girls are under 21.  I’m hoping that goes off without a hitch (fingers crossed).
On a completely unrelated note-I hurt.  I’ve increased my workout time to 4 days a week and I overdid it this weekend.  I finished out week 2 of the couch to 5k program and did some (too heavy) weights Saturday, and then I went to vinyasa yoga on Sunday and headed into the city.  I didn’t do too much walking because it was ridiculously humid, but my friend lives on the third floor, so there were stairs.
I’ll be looking for a 5k to do in the fall.  Hopefully I won’t make a fool of myself.  What’s a good time for a 5k? I feel like 30 minutes would be good for me.  Anyone have any running tips?

PS- I skipped the gym today.  I'll make it up later in the week, but I can hardly walk right today let alone run. I hate making excuses.  Urgh.

:Updated: Oh Hey There!

Sorry I’ve been antisocial media (see what I did there?) I’ve hardly even been on Facebook, but I have updated the Twitter a little bit. I have about 6 half-posts floating around, but it’s been really busy and hectic. I’ve done Christmas shopping and crafting and wrapping and baking (oh my). I don’t know what to get people these days. I don’t want to buy them some stupid present that they’ll never use, so I tend to make them. I made my 2 aunts that I’m close with necklaces, and I’ll be giving another aunt 2 Katie-sitting sessions (so she and my uncle can have some time out if they want). And I always give people baked goods.

Work’s gotten busy. I feel like they’re actually trying to use my creative skills now. It only took 2 years. On the negative side, I’ve had money taken from my wallet (which was in my purse, in my desk drawer in my office) twice in the last month. The second time was on Wednesday. This has been going on for 6 months and they’re finally going to do something about it. Six other people have had money taken; a few were missing over $100. Then last night I found a $20 bill on the floor at job #2. People said I should keep it because I’ve had money taken (karma?), but part of me feels like I should donate it or something. I’ve donated to Hopeline and the MS Society this year and donated stuff for care packages for the USO. But I always feel like I could/should be doing more, so I’m torn.

Today we’re decorating the lunchroom for our holiday party on Tuesday. And tomorrow I’m taking everyone’s donations down to the USO. I hope I don’t see a soldier. I’ll cry. Eventually I’d like to volunteer there and I’m sure I’ll cry then.

I hope everyone has a healthy, happy, and safe holiday!  My mom and step dad will be here in less than a week!  I still have baking to do! Crap!

PS: I did not win tickets to The Starting Line show in Philly tonight. Sads.

UPDATED:  I took the aforementioned money and participated in the movement Jenny the Bloggess started.  I couldn't stand the thought of someone's child not having a Christmas.

Operation Shoebox - Support the Troops!

My brother posted this on Facebook last night.

Even if you don't support the war, you can still support the men and women who risk their lives every day.

"Hello, everybody. I wanted to get the word out to the ones that would definitely donate in the quickest way possible, as time is quickly approaching on this. If I did not tag you on this note, and you want to participate, by all means, do so.

The troops overseas are in need of very basic items to get through, such as personal hygiene products and basic snack items, provided by the people they are serving back home, to show that we support their efforts overseas. In 2003, one of the associations I am proud to be involved with started Operation Shoebox, in which a shoebox filled with these items would be sent to them. This is where we all need help.

Each shoebox of items will be $40 ($35 worth of product, and $5 in shipping). I ask that if you can give to this, please do so. As I will have to order all of the product myself and take it with me on August 14th, I will need to order it all NO LATER than August 9th, as I will have to have all the product in my possession by August 13th. I will be collecting money for this through August 8th.

This is a tax deductible donation. If you would, I can provide an invoice to show how much you donated.

Please, I can't do this without you. Please spread the word to everybody that may want to donate. I would like to load my car up so that I can barely see the mirrors while I'm driving to York. Our troops need our support!

I will accept on cash or personal check (the money has to go in my bank account to order the products anyway, so either way would work).

If there are any questions, do not hesitate to ask them. If you need my address, please message me, so that I can send it to you.

Remember, the deadline for this is August 8th."

If you'd like to help out please e-mail me.  I know most of you don't know me in "real" life, so if this sounds like a good program and you'd like to help you can visit the website here and go from there.
