Jane Austen

I've started reading Pride and Prejudice again.  It's a great book but I've never actually read the entire thing.  I always start it, feel really confident, but then before I finish it I decide I want to watch the movie.  The BBC version that's like 5 hours long, not that crap that has Keira Knightly in it.  I mean, I like her and all, but I'd just much rather stare at Colin Firth.  I also like staring at him better than words on a page.
My desire to watch this is heightened whenever I watch or read Bridget Jones' Diary.  I love that Colin Firth is in that movie as well and his name is Darcy.  Brilliant casting in my humble opinion.  I also want to read all of Jane Austen's books after I watch "The Jane Austen Book Club".  It's a fantastic movie, and it will make you want to read everything she's ever written. I've also got a copy of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", which I'll get to after I've finished "Pride and Prejudice.

Potato Sacks Never Looked So Good

Okay, I'm lazy I forgot to put up my Project Runway fave this week.  I will pretty much always have an opinion on Project Runway...and ANTM when it comes back.  Anywho.  I thought the designers did a FANTASTIC job last week with the potato sack challenge.  I couldn't just pick one that I loved/would wear.  So here are my personal favorites:

Amy: I love the cut of this..it's flirty and sexy and I love how she dyed it.

Anthony: I don't usually like bubble hems, but this it's done in a different way here and this dress is super cute.  I'd need it a tad longer though...there's no way to sit in this thing without it going up even just a little.  And the color is fantastic.  Anthony is my favorite so far personality-wise.  He's absolutely hilarious and I love him.

And my third favorite is Jay Nicholas:
This was the winning dress.  I don't always agree with who wins, but so far this season I have.  I love the bottom of this dress.  It's so flirty and fun.

I thought that Maya's dress (below) was shaped strangely and there was a lot going on.  I was honestly surprised that she wasn't in the bottom three.

I'm not even going to bother predicting a winner for this season, because the person who I want to win never does.

Books and Knitting and Impatience (Just a Little)

I just finished reading "The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs. It was one of the best books I've read in a while, even though it made me bawl like a baby.  Seriously, don't read it unless you wanna cry.  I want to belong to a knitting club.  I know how to do basic stuff...like scarves and dish clothes, but I want to do something more challenging.

The problem is that I want it to be done right now.  I have two blankets started, but I've only been working on those for 2 years (...ish).  I should probably move on to a hat or some mittens or something first.  We'll see.  Once I get my stuff together and get some more finished items, I may create an Etsy page.

Goals 2010 Status Update

So far 2010 is off to a roaring start, and I'm pretty proud of myself.  I've started my blog, although sometimes I feel like I had more ideas about what to write before I actually had it.  I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that ideas and posts will come more easily to me once I get more comfortable.  I'm very sarcastic (I speak sarcasm fluently), but it doesn't always come across that way in writing.  I'll work on it.

I've also cleaned out my clothes.  I've bagged up the stuff that I know I absolutely will not wear again.  And I have a smaller group of stuff that I could wear again after I get to the gym more.  So I'll save those to try on later.  My dresser drawers actually close all the way without me cramming and stuffing my clothes in, so I'd say mission accomplished.  (BTW, the clothes that I'm getting rid of are either going to Purple Heart or if I can find somewhere that will take them for the Haitian relief effort.)  Now I just have to try not to shop.  I accidentally bought 2 shirts on Monday.  I bought a couple of things at H&M.  They are taking monetary donations and matching them penny for penny.  So 5 cents becomes 10 cents, and $10 becomes $20.

I'm very excited that my gym is open!  It's only on limited hours because they're still working on some parts of the place, like the locker room and showers.  But since I live across the street, all I really care about is the equipment.  I've gone twice this week so far, and I'll go on Saturday as well.  I have a bad habit of being gung-ho about stuff and then the weekend comes and all my resolve goes out the window.  I need to get myself into a schedule and I'll  be fine.  Practice makes perfect (or something encouraging).

My gym goal next week is to get on the weight machines.  They intimidate me.  I don't want to use them wrong and then have other gym-goers wonder what the eff I'm doing.  I'll also probably hurt myself.  Is appropriate to have a spotter when I can only manage about 10 pounds.  Okay, okay...maybe 15.

Why I'm Not Already Skinny-Minny

Things that are detrimental to me getting skinny:

  1. My gym isn't exactly open yet.  They're supposed to be open on the 18th, so here's hoping.
  2. Anything that is dark chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, or delicious covered in Nutella.
  3. Job #2 is in a bakery...yeah.
  4. I really like food.  Ergo, I'm bad at dieting. I'm ok with maintaining my weight as it is right now, so I figure if I make some adjustments and add in exercise, I can meet my goal.
  5. I like to bake....it's a stress reliever for me.  So when I bake, I eat.  I eat, feel fat, get stressed. Vicious cycle.
  6. It's too cold to go to the bike trail.
  7. I really enjoy being lazy/watching tv/reading.
What I really need is for someone to yell at me to go work out.

    Walk, Walk Fashion, Baby

I am sososososo happy that Project Runway is back!  I love that show, even on Lifetime.  I work on Thursday nights though, so I am hoping that Verizon has their sh*t together with having on demand in a timely fashion.

Speaking of fashion...I want the winning dress!  It's so cute!  The winning designer was Emilio Sosa.

Also having to do with fashion,  I want to share one of my favorite sites, Polyvore.  (My personal site is here.) Hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to get a little slide show of my latest sets posted.

    Goals for 2010

I never keep resolutions.  Ever.  So this year I decided to set goals for myself.  I'm hoping that in taking this different approach I'll be able to accomplish some of the things I really want overall in my life.  So here's my goal list so far:

    1.  Go to gym/lose some poundage/get healthy(skinny)
    2. Start a blog (I'm a winner already)
    3. Pay off credit cards
    4. Get passport
    5. Cross 2 items off life list
    6. Find an apartment
    7. Get organized (I'm terrible at keeping stuff in it's "home")
    8. Volunteer (My main cause is the National MS Society, but I'm interested in finding others as well)
    9. Clean out clothes
    10. Go through boxes from last move

I don't know how I ended up with 10.  My list is pretty concise.  I like how Allie did her list.  I should have tricked myself as well, but I'm clearly not as sly as she is.

Later I'll put up my life list...maybe.

    About a Girl

I am very new to blogging. I'm not sure what this will turn in to, but for now this will be an all-encompassing blog. I will definitely rant and rave about stuff and say things that only I think are funny.

Basics about me: I work for a non-profit full time and have a part-time thing three nights a week, I'm addicted to my iPod, I'm very close to my family and friends, I love shoes, shopping, reading, knitting.... It'll all come out through the blog.
